Andrea Burgay Artist Statement:

The works in the Requiem series explore the idea that in order to move forward we have to excavate the past. These works reconstruct places and experiences through the lens of memory, emotion and imagination. Often integrating personal materials—old drawings from notebooks and saved collage clippings, with found wallpaper samples and hand-painted papers—they integrate the pain of past griefs and trauma with what fragments of beauty still remain. Referencing the inevitability of the passage of time, they allude to the loss that accompanies it, and the potential for growth and rebirth that stems from it.
